Are Zombie Movies Making Prepping Cool?

By Terrance Franklin

Regarding the premiere of AMC's The Walking Dead the other day, and Halloween approaching, people are likely to be talking about zombies again. While the immortal have been a part of common customs since George Romero's Night of The Living Dead, men and women just recently have bridged the gap between prepping and a potential zombie apocalypse.

Are Zombie Preppers Legit?

Due to the imaginary nature of a zombie apocalypse, zombie preppers are generally looked down upon by several people in the prepper group. PostCollapse, the biggest prepper connected section on reddit, is stringently anti- zombie for example. It is possible that zombies are getting to be extremely trendy recently with the surge of nerd culture in the mainstream, and are experiencing some rebellion from more entrenched members of the community. But to dismiss something that brings more and more people into a state of readiness would be literally elitist.

Zombies: The Gateway Medication

Government bodies as high up as the US government have moved so far as to endorse zombie survival programs as a good way to get ready, launching a social media plan earlier this year. Due to the modern nature of zombie content, it was a good way to get individuals to start talking about the things that they had prepared. Their rationale? Having the ability to prepare for a zombie apocalypse might translate perfectly to a far more mundane disaster like a storm or earthquake.

The basic principles on the bug out bag list would be pretty much the same: food, water, purification tabs, drugs, as well as tools to create housing. If anything, the products might be more geared towards doling out ache on the shambling hordes of deceased. But with the reality of the hard to predict human aspect of an emergency, being more equipped than required would turn to a lot more people being able to secure themselves and their family from would be looters. In the instance that few food items would accessible, somebody wanting to consume your items is simply as deadly as a zombie wishing to eat your brains.

Innovation from the Zombie Prepper Scene

Zombie preppers have formulated their own list of modern processes to meet the distinct demands of their apocalypse of choice. Suited to the safety of zombie bites, there are several interesting improvements. Among the fascinating preps that I have found while browsing a zombie survival forum in the past was duct tape armor. Originally created in jails to protect from shivs along with other assaults during riots, duct tape has been used for many years to keep people alive. Used by itself or even in collaboration with plating varying from lunch trays to phone books, it provides a lightweight form of armor that can change a blade or even stop a bullet if thick enough.

The results of zombie preppers can be sensed on weapons from practical to borderline ridiculous. Some have perhaps taken accessorizing weaponry to an almost fetishistic stage. Regardless, this kind of testing is teaching people all over the world abilities with regards to self defense.
