Having The Right Art Supplies Will Spell Profits For Your Business

By Mark Eddison

You may choose to go into the business of selling art supplies or you may even want to conduct art classes for aspiring or amateur artists; whatever it is, you should make sure you stock up on the right supplies. The reasons many similar businesses do not pan out and become bankrupt is because they often have below average quality of these supplies. Many art classes draw a lot of students because they make use of the proper and good quality supplies. There is no wonder why many students flock to one class and completely ignore another. They know they will get value for their money and the learning process will be more worthwhile with the proper tools.

What are the basic supplies that every art store should have? Whether you are catering to amateurs or professional artists, you should make sure you stock on the essentials and the basics. The first things that would come to mind would be inks, dyes and paints. You could have paint that is acrylics, oil paint, watercolours, or even glass and ceramic. Paints are sold individually or in sets.

Pastels and crayons should also be included, considering their popularity especially for kids who are just starting out. Mediums, varnishes and primers are also considered essential, particularly by the more advanced artists. You should also include different types of brushes, pens, pencils and charcoal. Cases or holders for these brushes are also a good idea to ensure they will be protected when not in use.

Art papers and pads should always be included in any list of supplies that you make. Add drawing boards to the list. Canvas should come in purchase selections of per roll, per meter, per panel, or per pad. Canvas accessories and artboards will also be a good addition to your supplies inventory.

You should also have a range of easels that will suit all purposes. Wooden and metal easels of all sizes are gaining a lot of popularity these days. Artist stools are good additions to these easels that artists will truly appreciate.

Art supplies also include the different types of instructional materials. You should have books, magazines, and even audio-video materials on art in your store. It is a good way to encourage many aspiring artists to get started and learn more about their chosen field in art and to convince even those who haven't tried making art before to give it a shot. They would appreciate learning more about sketching, drawing, sculpting, painting using various mediums, and other forms of art.

You should also provide the storage items or supplies that are usually used in storing these other art supplies. Art satchels and bags are especially useful in organizing the smaller items such as pens and brushes. Aside from drawing tubes and portfolios, wooden art cases are also often used to keep finished artworks or even the artworks in progress.

When buying art supplies, you should first ascertain the needs of your potential customers or clientele. If you know what they want, you can be sure that the art supplies you are buying are the right ones.
