By Bridgette Conway

These days, you can find many people that are wearing turbans. A turban is a kind of headwear that is made up of a long cloth wrapped carefully around the person's head. This is sometimes used as a popular accessory by many men and women. However, things like the white turban are closely associates with a race, belief, and religion. There are a lot of people that do not see them as another accessory.

As mentioned, there are different kinds of people that wear turbans. Each of these people has a specific style of how they wear their turbans and even have different reasons why they wear them. A very good example of people that wear them would be the Sikh. Turbans are also worn by men from Iran, India, and Afghanistan. These are also worn by the Muslim elders and by a lot of desert people.

The main reason why turbans are being worn is for protection against the heat of the sun. You might have noticed that those who wear them are from the desert countries. In some cultures, turbans protect the head from negative energy. The head is sometimes viewed as sacred because it is the temple that houses your energy or soul.

Turbans are also worn in order to serve as something that will identify a person from all of the people that are surrounding. For the Sikh, turbans should always be worn at all times to remind them of who and what they are. This constant reminder will always make them aware of their duty as a Sikh.

For the colors, each group would have its own preference and interpretation. The white turban is viewed by some as sacred. Black could stand for selflessness while blue means protection. Some cultures do not hold any significance to the color of the turbans. It is for them just a matter of preference and the clothes you are wearing.

As to when the boys have to start donning the turbans, no specific age or time is usually provided. In many groups, they just leave this decision to the individual. In the Sikh culture, their boys are free to decide this for themselves. They also have the chance to choose the kinds of turbans they prefer to wear.

Nowadays, many cultures have become more lax when it comes to the wearing of turbans. With the exception of those that are in a religious order, many men now have the freedom choose whether they will wear one or not. There are many groups that have become more lenient in order to cope with the changing times.

There are situations where in turbans are not just items that are exclusive for men. This is true among the Sikh people. They also require their women to wear hide their hair by and wear turbans. These turbans are used to protect a woman's grace and also her integrity. Women can also choose to wear a scarf instead of tying turbans.

The white turban and turbans of other colors have significant meaning to certain groups of people. It is something that symbolizes the kind of people that they are. The item is closely tied to their religion and their history.
