Tips On Maximizing Emergency Communication Equipment

By Ethel Harris

It is very important that each individual knows what to do during disaster situations. However, lack of coordination would defeat the preparedness of an individual. Emergency communication equipment Pennsylvania would need to be maximized in order to address any emergencies.

First thing to take note of in preparing for such an event is to assign specific individuals for different tasks. This needs to be done so that there will be no confusion and actions being taken are well organized. It is then important for everyone to get informed about this so that there will be no unorganized action that would slow down response. A back up person also needs to be assigned in order to cover up for the person in charge should he be absent when an incident happens.

Radio silence is very important during emergencies. Everyone should cooperate in keeping the communication line open by not using their gadgets except for very important information. They should be informed of their responsibility with these things. Explaining to them the need for a free line in such cases would help them cooperate.

These devices should not be the only ones to be relied on. One should entertain the likelihood of malfunction or failure of these devices. To counter this, if an event happens and there is no way of using them, a meeting place for all should be predetermined.

There is a need of educating people on how to communicate effectively. To do this, one should be aware what necessary data are. Giving only the needed data would help emergency response teams get an overall view of the situation much faster. Only those that are relevant should be relayed. For a person sustaining injury, age, gender, level of consciousness, and condition would be important. The responding team may be able to relay what may be temporarily done while they are still coming.

An individual would have to be put in charge of meeting help teams such as paramedics or police in emergency cases. The purpose of this is to shorten the time needed for the responding forces to get to the situation fast. It is understandable that even if they are given directions, they could not immediately go to the location specially if they have gone to the area for the first time. A person who knows the area would help speed them up.

These standard operating procedures should be sent to everyone in written copies. This is to ensure that they understand what is being told and would help them review it. There is also the need to discuss them and do follow up reminders so that what is being taught would not be forgotten.

All emergency response programs would not be complete without conducting a dry run. These drills would help everyone understand their role and get them to act naturally according to practice should it be real already. This also prevents panic and unruly individuals to go out of their way should such event happen.

Covering all these aspects will help improve the efficiency of an emergency communication equipment Pennsylvania. Nobody would ever know when such events would strike. Awareness and preparation would be very valuable should they ever occur.
