By Douglas Rathbone

Ask any eighteen year old about the term Video Games, chances are that all of them know something about it and most of them are addicted to them. Girls are are not left out here as they are also involved. The simplest definition of this indoor game is that it is an electronic sport that encompasses the interaction of the human beings with a display device be it a personal computer, a main frame computer, a small hand held device or even a video console.

These have been created and grouped to suit different age groups. A twenty nine year old cannot be playing the same game as a ten year old. The higher the age group the more complex and advanced the games become as their brain needs to be challenged more.

They are also classified into three major classifications and they include casual, serious and educational. Just like the name suggests, casual ones are for pure fun. They are easy to learn, very simple to comprehend and they can be so easily accessed.

Some of these include solitaire and minesweeper that come with Microsoft applications. Casual ones can be bought online and they are even sites that allow people to play for free.

The second genre is the serious games. Just like the name suggests this one is more of a learning experience than just playing for fun. These pass a message and offer training to the player playing it. Professionals are advised to play so as to improve and perfect their skills in a particular activity. Another important thing is that they can be used to convey a social and political awareness to the general public. A good example of a serious game is the Microsoft flight simulator.

Edification ones have been used by some states to make studying in schools an entertainment and fun affair rather than a boring affair. These ones assist the students to be able to count and even spell way more effectively and it has been used in the USA where president Obama launched the campaign and the results show that students are gaining more knowledge by using edification ones.

Facts related to these are that the average video games player is thirty seven years old and has played for the past twelve years. Also eighty two percent of individuals that play these are eighteen years old and over. Forty two percent of the number of people that play them are women and research has stated that women are the fastest growing demographics in this industry.
