How Free Beats And Instrumentals Help Aspiring Artists Sharpen Their Abilities

By Hendry Powell

Digital technology now makes it possible for talented artists to create their own music without stepping foot inside a traditional studio. Personal computer software is now advanced enough to give many aspiring musicians the capability of putting together high-quality recordings using original tracks and vocals, often in combination with free beats and instrumentals.

These no-cost tracks are not only fun to hear, but are also ideal for working on improving word flow and good vocal timing. Many times these recordings are presented without cost by established, successful artists who want to inspire new musicians to further develop their talents. These tracks are designated royalty-free, which simply means that the original artist does not expect payment each time one is used.

Many music styles are available for download, but the most common are in the hip-hop or rap genre. While most are used by non-professionals, any musician who wants to make money from sales must become aware of the legalities surrounding the use of this type of material. Even though the original artist is not expecting to be paid, the basic copyright still applies.

Downloaded material often comes with an attached digital voice tag that cannot be removed without violating the law. Some recordings may be used in an actual production, but credit must be always be given openly to the producers who originally distributed them. While there may not be a charge, that music is still owned by the originator, not the user.

In other instances, artists give permission for downloading, but bar recordings that incorporate their material from appearing on any website that sells music. Some sites permit their downloads to be used on a non-profit, one-time-only basis. This might include a special student school project, a personal tape mix, or any other not-for-sale creative attempt.

For musicians who wish to eventually market their talents, there are a growing number of sites which do allow their material to be used in commercial recordings, but not as it was originally presented. This music must only be used as a background to newly recorded vocals, and no ownership may be claimed while it is still in its original form.

Even with all these restrictions, free beats and instrumentals are one way to spur creative growth and learning. By saving the effort and time it would normally take to make their own tracks, aspiring artists can concentrate on perfecting musical techniques and abilities without having to spend a lot of extra money, which is a very important consideration for many musicians.
